Pasteurella multorida was isolated from the lungs of albino rats(Wistar) which showed the clinical signs of cough, respiratory noise, eye and nasal discharge, depression, reduced appetite, and death. The lungs were enlarged, congested, and hemorrhagic macroscopically; loss of architecture and massive inflammatory infiltrations were noted microscopically. The bacteria were inoculated into the healthy rats intranasally and intraperitoneally. The pneumonia produced by P. multocida intranasally was identical to the naturally occurring disease.
